Gourmet Black Teas

Known for their rich, full-bodied flavor, black teas also provide many health benefits. Black tea is fermented, or oxidized, after plucking. The leaves are left in the sun or in a humid room and exposed to oxygen. The natural result of the leaf enzymes coming into contact with oxygen—similar to the way leaves change color in Autumn—causes a chemical change which is responsible for the characteristic flavors of black tea.
Black tea has a bold, bright, assertive flavor and brews a deep amber hue. Although the flavor varies depending on growing elevation and country of origin, black tea is generally the strongest tasting tea. |
